Our team consists of 100+ employees, including 10 registered architects, 3 interior designers, 9 professional engineers, 6 project managers and 9 project superintendents. PLANNING has completed over $140 million in design and construction projects over the past 3 years.

PLANNING'S Management Team

Tom Pientka, PE - President and Owner

Tom is responsible for the overall efficient and profitable operation of PLANNING Design Build, Inc. Our clients benefit from his extensive construction experience and technical expertise as a civil engineer combined with his architectural design and detailing knowledge. His experience is invaluable in confirming the feasibility of project concepts and selecting systems and materials. Tom's project participation ensures that systems integration and building durability considerations are properly addressed.

Jim Pientka - Executive Vice-President and Owner

Jim is responsible for the delivery of the construction portion of our design build contracts with emphasis on schedule, cost and quality. Jim's 15 years of building industry experience and his business education are the foundation of his ability to efficiently and consistently meet aggressive project schedules. His extensive construction experience is also a key input during the design phase of projects to ensure their constructability.

Greg Callin - Vice President - Business Development

Greg leads the project feasibility and project development services of PLANNING. Greg provides business services to commercial clients including site evaluation, assistance on debt and equity options, business plan review, preparation of project budgets, critique of pro forma financial projections and assistance in identification of feasibility consultants, property management operators, and other specialty consultants. Greg's 20 years of experience in working with management groups and owners in a variety of fields, along with his financial background, provides clients with a unique set of skills to assist them on their building projects.

Kim Frey - Vice-President Estimating

Kim is responsible for estimates, subcontractor qualification, bidding and critical material orders. His unique background in mathematics and carpentry add both detail and practicality to his estimates. His detail orientation combines with his experience to develop extremely accurate estimates at the conceptual design stage. This allows owners to make informed decisions regarding the economic viability of projects.

Mike Olson - Chief Financial Officer

Mike is responsible for ensuring that the Company's financial condition remains healthy to support overall business goals and objectives. His team is responsible for providing management and key staff with real time financial information through online access to the company's accounting and project management database. Mike also directly assists clients in developing proformas to analyze project feasibility. Mike's project management and real estate development experience, combined with his engineering and business education, makes him well suited to lead the financial area for PLANNING .

Dan Dehnert, PE - MEP Engineering Manager

All HVAC, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems for PLANNING projects are designed under Dan's leadership. His project participation ensures that all systems are integrated together and with the architectural design. The experience gained during his 20 years in designing mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems make him exceptionally qualified to design systems that optimize life cycle cost while meeting objectives for system performance and project budget.

Kurt Frey, PE - Design Production Manager

The architectural and engineering design production for all PLANNING projects is managed under Kurt's leadership. He is responsible for ensuring the development and continuity of architectural and engineering project schedules, quality assurance and constructibility of design documents. Kurt is also responsible for establishing and monitoring appropriate architectural and engineering project priorities and budgets. Kurt is exceptional at balancing design with constructibility to create value for clients. He holds professional registrations in 40 states and has 23 years experience in Structural Engineering and over 17 years experience in Design-Build.

Ken Pientka - Chief Operating Officer

Ken is responsible for the day-to-day operations and long-range planning functions for the Company. Ken draws on both his technical and business expertise as well as his 23 years of management experience to lead the Information Systems, Marketing, Human Resources, Business Development, Strategic Planning and Administrative Support functions.
